SiteStuff, Grainger and Brady Corporation Join Forces to Ease Compliance with NYC Local Law 26
Post-9/11 Mandate Requires Photoluminescent Evacuation Markings for More than 1,500 Commercial Buildings in New York City 06/28/2005 AUSTIN, TX -- More than 1,500 commercial properties in New York City will be affected by NYC Local Law 26. Within weeks following hearings held by the Federal 9/11 Commission, the City Council Committee on Housing and Buildings voted to make New York City high-rise buildings safer for the occupants. The new law, signed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg on June 8, 2005, requires Class E commercial properties taller than 75-feet to install photoluminescent markings on exits and in stairwells to make evacuation safer and easier in case of emergency. SiteStuff, the nation's leading commercial real estate procurement company, is joining Grainger, North America's leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies, and Brady Corporation to offer New York City property owners and managers the most efficient way to comply with NYC Local Law 26. The new BradyGlo™ photoluminescent products are specifically engineered to be compliant with Local Law 26. BradyGlo™ material works by absorbing ambient light from mercury vapor, metal halide, fluorescent and natural light. When building lights go out during an emergency, BradyGlo™ markings and signs create a high-intensity glow that lasts up to 10 hours so people can quickly and safely identify building escape routes. BradyGlo™ markings are designed to identify stairwells, stair steps, final exits, floors, stairwell doors, handrails, and landings. The markings light the way in complete darkness and even in smoke-filled buildings. "New York City is taking a leadership position in building safety with Local Law 26," said SiteStuff CEO Charlie Pace. "BradyGlo's products will make New York City high-rises safer, and at SiteStuff, our job is to make it easy and efficient for building owners and managers to comply with this important new law." NYC Local Law 26 incorporates recommendations from the World Trade Center Building Code Task Force. Property owners and managers have until July 1, 2006 to comply with the mandate.
